DSFederal CEO Sophia Parker and Web Development Director Nneka Hector attended the 2018 Women's Leadership Conference, held on April 14 at the McLean Hilton Tyson's Corner. Sophia writes that the conference inspired her to refocus on DSFederal's commitment to service--by finding ways to combat human trafficking and child marriage on a large scale; while also thinking locally by re-emphasizing DSFederal's commitment to reducing plastic waste.
As Sophia explains, it's easy to become overwhelmed with anxiety when confronted with the sheer number and magnitude of issues facing the world. But each person and each group can do something--something as small and easy as bringing a shopping bag with us to the grocery store; or something larger, by supporting organizations that seek to free trafficking victims in the U.S. and abroad. We're fortunate enough to be able to do both, through a waste-reduction initiative at DSFederal headquarters, and IDEA Foundation contributions to organizations that fight trafficking and provide services to victims.
Sophia has asked DSFederalers to consider stepping outside our comfort zones. “Why go outside of our comfort zone? Magic always happens outside the comfort zone.” With new contracts and new areas of focus for 2018, we're inspired by the idea of working outside our comfort zone, while remaining true to our mission of making the world a better place.
