October 17, 2017 is the 25th anniversary of UN General Assembly declaration of October 17 as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. This day marks a call to action to end poverty, while recognizing the courage and fortitude of those living in poverty throughout the world. Building a sustainable future necessitates a revitalized effort toward eradicating extreme poverty and discrimination, and ensuring that all people can fully exercise their human rights. The UN declares that “the full participation of people living in poverty, particularly in the decisions that affect their lives and communities, must be at the center of policies and strategies to build a sustainable future.” It also calls on all nations and peoples to come together to end poverty and discrimination and build a world in which the needs of the present are met without compromising the needs of future generations.
DSFederal, with its singular focus on making the world a better place, supports efforts to alleviate or eradicate poverty, through both our contract work and the work of the DSFederal IDEA Foundation. The DSF-IDEA Foundation, the lifelong dream of DSFederal’s CEO Sophia Parker, was established in 2013. The Foundation has raised $20,000 in support of Amitofo Care Centre (ACC), a charity that benefits African children's charity; delivered clothing, school supplies, sewing machines, and books to the Aschiana Center in Kabul, Afghanistan; and in September 2017, donated $10,000 to Unidos Por Puerto Rico.
Many of our clients also work to advance the goal of ending poverty. The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), for example, is a division of HHS that provides resources and support to promote economic security and social welfare for families with dependent children. ACF oversees the Office of Head Start (OHS), which promotes school readiness for low-income preschool children. We support Head Start by providing comprehensive administrative and professional support to OHS Region 10. Working with HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), we provide technical solutions and support to aid MCHB’s efforts to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities, and to improve health outcomes for underserved women and children.
DSFederal’s people take pride in our company’s dedication to building a better future by supporting disaster relief efforts and working to alleviate poverty. We believe that better healthcare and universal education are two of the most important keys to eliminating poverty, and we’re honored to support the work of OHS, MCHB, and many other government agencies dedicated to improving opportunity and quality of life for Americans in need.
